CIRCULAR ECONOMY FNQ | HELPING BUSINESS TO:
Our mission is through Human Centred Design and radical collaboration with Circular and Zero waste innovators to discover and implement a roadmap to reduce and measure our Carbon Footprint in business and our lifestyle.
Our goal is validate local and national Circular Innovations in Case Studies so that we can through data, identify transition systems that are scaleable or repeatable in regional Australia. Our Circular Business Transition Pilots is focused on diverting Food Waste from Landfill and reduce Methane at the same time as producing a Sustainability Report for their business.
As a
social enterprise, Circular Economy FNQ sees it has an opportunity to be part of identifying the roadmap to move from a linear to a circular economy, in a tropical and regional setting. The linear economy produces a lot of waste because even at best we only make use of 20% of our resources we produce or extract,
because we use each resource for 1 purpose only = linear.
The circular economy is the framework designed by sustainable economists to make recycling happen on a local and global scale. Moving the conversations from Gross Domestic Profit, GDP, to the S Curve, how much benefit can we get from this one resource.
The reality is when you use 100% of a resource there is a lot more income to be made, take the coffee bean, we use 1% in a coffee, instead of sending it to landfill, it can be sent to Mushroom farmers or commercial composting centres to sell that compost to both regen farmers and domestic gardeners. That can be repeated across all types of food waste.
Seeing waste as a resource and changing our LIFESTYLE is two important habits we can all do to help launch the Circular Economy in FNQ.
THIS CHANGE IS ACTUALLY BETTER FOR US AND BETTER FOR THE PLANET. It's full of opportunities including new industries that will develop effective ways of reusing our waste and the beauty of that is, it actually saves existing business models MONEY. Saving it and making it.
Our part in the piece of the puzzle is to connect the dots of passionate sustainable ambassadors in science, business and society to help us bring everyone along in a change that is good for the planet and good for the people.
1.5, that's all we can afford to let the temperature rise by, otherwise we will lose one if not both of our World Heritage Listed assets. We know if you have read it this far you feel the same way as us, join us as we need your energy in the mix. Exciting times ahead.
From our work with Behavioural scientists one of the key ways to make change happen is by creating a buzz.
Nothing does that faster than a tee shirt with a message.
Our Challenge Continues Till The 17th Of June
We are developing Courses that will be included in your Circular Citizen Memberships
Did you know there are over 200 businesses in Cairns, Palm Cove and Port Douglas who already moving towards being a Zero Waste business?
Join us in our Circular Citizen Challenge where you can show the businesses you buy from that you want them to also become a Zero Waste Business
so that you can be a
Carbon Neutral Human
while living in or visiting FNQ.
We believe that when we work together we can slow and even reverse climate change,
reduce the likelihood of 1billion Climate Change refugees and save the Daintree and Great Barrier Reef and all the wildlife that call both our World Heritage listed assets home, at the same time.
We are doing this challenge in 2 ways. Measuring your carbon footprint through the Reforest App.
We are asking those of you who have a great waste sorting system at home to share your waste sorting or reduction hacks on your Instagram or Facebook page so that we can curate those lessons in our Online Course we are building for our Circular Citizen membership.
We believe in collective intelligence as the way to learn and overcome things faster, so we are bringing you out of socials and onto an online course where we can put those key lessons into a powerful checklist that we can share, over and over again.
p.s. if you have any aunties, nanas or older gen who aren't tech aware, go over and film them too. Learn more about the challenge by clicking the button below. 💚

We are starting our first pilot in our goal to divert FOGO, Food Organics Garden Organics from landfill by testing in place processing solutions because Food Waste is 90% water and moving water around sounds bonkers!!
Food Waste makes up 60% of the landfill waste in Cairns Regional Council Landfill bins.
Every 10 tonnes we divert from landfill we create 9.2 local jobs.
By processing the waste in place we help our Pilot businesses reduce the costs of waste management, provide a Monday style Sustainability checklist for businesses to easily follow as we write up the Custom Actions for our Pilot businesses that produces a Sustainability Report that is publically shared for other FNQ businesses to learn from. We have designed in our pilot to curate the data we need that can not only reduce contamination but will provide training for the staff to adopt the new systems efficiently. All of our solutions are data driven so we can validate in the first 3 months cost saving benefits in your business.
We are testing multiple solutions for the FOGO waste to help regenerate Farms on the Tablelands, put high quality compost in the gardens of the Hotels that are part of our pilot and create a sellable compost through P&C's and our website. We are designing the most good we can in our Pilot so that everyone wins. The planet, the people and your business.
